HOW TO BECOME A MEMBER?
To be eligible for the City of Wanneroo’s Volunteer Bushfire Brigades, we ask that you attend at least three (3) of the monthly meetings held with your respective Brigade.
Once you have attended three (3) meetings, your Fire Brigade Officer will assist you in joining the Brigade as an active member.
All eligible members will then undergo a medical examination (the cost of the medical will be paid by the City of Wanneroo).
WHICH BRIGADE DO I JOIN?
WANNEROO BRIGADE
If you reside in Banksia Grove, Beldon, Carramar, Connolly, Currambine, Edgewater, Heathridge, Hocking, Iluka, Joondalup, Kallaroo, Mullaloo, Ocean Reef, Sinagra, Tapping, Wanneroo or Woodvale you are eligible for membership in the Wanneroo Bush Fire Brigade.
QUINNS ROCKS BRIGADE
If you reside in Butler, Clarkson, Jindalee, Merriwa, Mindarie, Nowergup, Quinns Rocks or Ridgewood you are eligible for membership in the Quinns Rocks Bush Fire Brigade.
FIRE SUPPORT BRIGADE
If you reside in any of the afore-mentioned areas, you are eligible for membership in the Fire Support Brigade.
THEN WHAT?
After your basic training you will be issued with your own pager and Personal Protective Equipment, and become an active member of the Brigade.
Meetings: As an active member we would ask that you continue to attend the monthly Brigade meetings on the third (3rd) Monday of the month starting at 7pm.
Rostering and Call outs to Incidents: You will be rostered on for one (1) weekday, from 6pm till 6am following morning, or one (1) weekend, 6pm Friday till 6pm Sunday, per month during the Fire Season. Members are required at the depot for departure to an incident within 15 minutes of a pager call.
Maintenance Day: On the 1st Sunday of every month we meet at the depot to do a full maintenance check and inventory on all of the Support vehicles. This is followed by a BBQ.
Training: The brigade holds training on the first (1st) and third (3rd) Tuesday of every month, at 7pm at the Council Works Depot, 1204 Wanneroo Road, Ashby. All members are required to complete a minimum of six (6) training sessions in a 12 month period in order for the Brigade to meet its duty of care requirements and for members to keep up to date with operational policy and procedures.
SOCIAL CLUB
The Wanneroo Fire Services has a very active social club. Events and activities, such as the Christmas function, are held every year. All Brigade members are welcome to attend Social Club events.
